Competition Format:This is a news-broadcasting competition open to all primary schools in Singapore. The participants will use the NewsMaker software to produce videos. Please watch the sample video created using Newsmaker:.Loading the player...
Each participating school will send a team comprising of three Primary 4 students and one teacher mentor. Each participating school can only send one team. On the Competition Briefing and Training day, 1/3/2017, participants will learn how to use NewsMaker, the immersive digital video-news making software. Then, each team will complete and submit their videos by 22/3/2017. The videos will be assessed by a panel of judges for its content, good use of language, good use of media such as music, video and photos, and the video’s overall aesthetic appeal. The winners will be announced during the Winners Announcement and Prize Presentation Ceremony on 29/3/2017. The top five performing teams will be presented with Gold, Silver, Bronze and (two) Merits Awards accordingly and all participating students will also receive their participation certificates. |

1) Dr Linda Hanington Head, Teachers' Language Development Centre Senior Lecturer, English Language & Literature National Institute of Education |
Dr. Linda Hanington holds a Doctorate degree, an MA in Education, Training and Development and an MBA in Strategic Management. Early in her career Linda taught English as a Foreign Language in the UK, Germany, Austria, and Spain. She moved to Singapore in 1987 and has since worked extensively with Singapore school teachers and other professionals. She joined the English Language and Literature Academic Group of the National Institute of Education in June 2010 and is currently Head of the Teachers' Language Development Centre. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2) Ms Florence Lee Lead Teacher & Covering EL HOD Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) |
Florence Lee is a Lead Teacher at Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road). She teaches English Language at the Upper Secondary levels and is currently covering the role of Head of Department. In her school, she also works closely with the Professional Development Committee to foster a culture of learning within the school community, and heads the Corporate Communication Committee where she oversees various publications, photography and publicity platforms. Prior to this, she taught General Paper, Project Work, and Knowledge and Inquiry at Anderson Junior College before moving on to be a curriculum planning officer at the Curriculum Planning and Development Division in MOE Headquarters. Florence has an MA in Applied Linguistics, an Ed.M in Adult Learning and Leadership and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is interested in exploring the different ways students, and teachers as adult learners, learn and how she can facilitate this learning process. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3) Mr. Mark J. Wilkinson Lecturer English Language & Literature National Institute of Education, Singapore |
Mark Wilkinson is a lecturer at the National Institute of Education, Singapore. He teaches communication skills for teachers, English phonology, digital journalism for English language enhancement, and children’s literature. His research interests include CALL, ESL/EFL, digital literacies, communication skills, and project-based learning. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4) Mr. Mashor Arshad Assistant Director Media Design for Learning (MDL) Branch Educational Technology Division Ministry of Education |
Mashor Arshad is a trained Education Officer who taught Geography at secondary level, Economics and General Paper at JC level before joining the Ministry of Education as a Media Producer. He is involved in the designing and production of audio and video resources to support the curriculum, teacher training and corporate communications, and has been a jury member for the Schools Digital Media Awards for over 10 years. Today, Mashor oversees collaborations between the Media Design for Learning (MDL) Branch and various MOE Divisions in the development of learning and teaching resources as well as provides consultancy and training in media production. Mashor also plays a key role in ensuring that audio and video productions developed by MDL are of the highest quality. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5) Ms. Trudy Lim Senior Lecturer School of Communication, Arts & Social Studies Singapore Polytechnic |
Trudy Lim was a journalist for almost 20 years with SPH, first with The Straits Times, and then with The New Paper. She has worked as a reporter, news editor, copy processor, copy taster and sub-editor. She has a passion for news. For the last 10 years, she has taught journalism and media to students in the Diploma in Media and Communication course at Singapore Polytechnic. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
